〜に比べて
ni kurabete · compared with ~
〜に比べて compares something with a standard: 去年に比べて、今年は暑い, compared with last year, this year is hot.
How to form it

| Verb (plain) + のに比べて | 歩くのに比べて |
How it is used
It is more formal than より and often opens the sentence.
に比べると and と比べて mean the same.
Examples

- 東京に比べて、大阪は物価が安いです。Prices are lower in Osaka than in Tokyo.
- 兄に比べて、弟はおとなしい。Compared with his older brother, the younger one is quiet.
- 電車で行くのに比べて、バスは時間がかかる。The bus takes longer than going by train.
