〜わりに
wari ni · considering ~, for ~ (unexpectedly)
〜わりに says the result is not what you would expect from the starting point: 安いわりにおいしい, tasty for the price.
How to form it
| Noun + のわりに | 年のわりに |
| Verb / い-adj (plain) + わりに | 勉強したわりに |
| な-adj + なわりに | 有名なわりに |
How it is used
The surprise can be good or bad: 「値段のわりにおいしい」 (good), 「たくさん勉強したわりに点が悪い」 (bad).
It is conversational; 〜にしては is similar but is used for one specific case.
Examples

- 祖父は年のわりに元気です。My grandfather is very fit for his age.
- たくさん勉強したわりに、点数がよくなかった。Considering how much I studied, my score wasn't good.
- あの映画は有名なわりに、つまらなかった。For such a famous film, it was dull.
