在宅勤務が広く定着し、通勤時間の削減や育児との両立など、その利点は十分に証明されたと言ってよい。私自身、往復２時間の通勤から解放されたことで、生活の質は確実に上がった。
一方で、見過ごせない問題も明らかになってきた。それは、雑談の消滅である。オフィスでは、廊下や給湯室でのなにげない会話から新しい企画が生まれたり、若手が先輩の仕事ぶりを自然に学んだりしていた。オンライン会議は目的が決まった話には効率的だが、目的のない会話はほとんど生まれない。
技術で解決できる部分もあるだろうが、まずは「雑談は無駄ではなく投資である」と組織が認識を改めることが先決ではないだろうか。
