本文 · Passage
専門家が 一般の 人に 説明する とき、しばしば 二つの 失敗が 起こる。一つは、専門用語を そのまま 使い、相手を 置き去りに する こと。もう一つは、わかりやすさを 求める あまり、単純化しすぎて 本質を ゆがめて しまう ことだ。
前者は 不親切だが、まだ 罪は 軽い。聞き手は 「わからない」と 自覚できる からだ。問題は 後者で ある。きれいに 整理された 説明を 聞くと、人は 「理解した」と 錯覚する。しかし そこで こぼれ落ちた 例外や 条件こそが、その 分野の 核心で ある ことが 少なくない。
良い 説明とは、わかりやすさと 正確さの 間で 揺れ続ける ものだ。簡単に 言いきれない ことを、簡単に 言いきらない 誠実さ。それを 持つ 専門家こそ、本当に 信頼できる のだと 私は 思う。
