知識を たくさん もつ ことと、かしこい ことは、必ずしも 同じではない。試験の ために おぼえた 知識は、使う 場面を 失えば、やがて わすれられて いく。本当の 学びとは、おぼえた 事がらを、まだ 出会った ことの ない 問題に あてはめ、自分の 頭で 考え直せる 状態に する ことだ。知識は、材料に すぎない。それを どう 組み合わせ、どう 生かすかを 知って はじめて、学びは 力に なる。
