本文 · Passage
「効率」という言葉が、社会のあらゆる場面でものさしになっている。むだをはぶき、より少ない時間でより多くの成果を出す。それ自体は悪いことではない。だが、効率というものさし一本ですべてをはかろうとするとき、わたしたちはしばしば大切なものを見落とす。たとえば教育において、ある子が一つの問いに何時間も立ち止まること。それは効率の面からはむだに見える。しかし、その立ち止まりの中でこそ、思考の深さやねばり強さが育つこともある。すぐに答えの出ないものをかかえ続ける力を、効率ははかれない。むしろわたしは、効率でははかれないものの価値を見わすれないことこそ、成熟した社会の条件だと考える。
