本文 · Passage
「効率」という 言葉が、社会の あらゆる 場面で ものさしに なって いる。むだを はぶき、より 少ない 時間で より 多くの 成果を 出す。それ 自体は 悪い ことではない。だが、効率という ものさし一本で すべてを はかろうと する とき、わたしたちは しばしば 大切な ものを 見落とす。たとえば 教育に おいて、ある 子が 一つの 問いに 何時間も 立ち止まる こと。それは 効率の 面からは むだに 見える。しかし、その 立ち止まりの 中でこそ、思考の 深さや ねばり強さが 育つ ことも ある。すぐに 答えの 出ない ものを かかえ続ける 力を、効率は はかれない。むしろ わたしは、効率で ははかれない ものの 価値を 見わすれない ことこそ、成熟した 社会の 条件だと 考える。
