子どものころ、わたしは何でも早くできる子がうらやましかった。走るのも、計算するのも、絵をかくのも、クラスにはわたしよりずっと上手な子がいた。自分はだめだと感じ、こっそりないたこともある。しかし大人になって、あのころ苦手だった作文が、今の仕事でいちばん役に立っていることに気づいた。人にはそれぞれ、時間をかけてそだつ力がある。早さだけで自分をくらべる必要はなかったのだ。今なにかがうまくできなくても、それはこれからのびるしるしかもしれない。
