「早く」と いう 言葉が、これほど 好まれる 時代も めずらしい。料理は 時短、勉強は 効率、返事は 即レス。たしかに、むだな 時間を へらす ことには 意味が ある。しかし、すべてを 早く すませようと する うちに、わたしたちは あるものを 見落として いないだろうか。たとえば、ゆっくり 湯を わかし、茶を いれる。その あいだの、何も 起こらない 数分間。そこには、心を 落ちつかせ、頭を 整理する 静かな はたらきが ある。早さは たしかに 力だ。だが、あえて 遅く する ことでしか 得られない ものも、この 世には たしかに 存在するのである。
