Read the cause, then pick the result
駅まで makes walking sound right — but the clue is the crowded train.
55% of 76 answers were right — one of the hardest questions in the catalogue.
The question
Choose the word that best fits the blank.
電車が こんでいたので、駅まで ずっと ( )いました。
- 歩いて
- 立って✓ correct
- 座って
- 寝て
The train was crowded, so I stood the whole way to the station.
What it is testing
The first half gives a reason: 電車がこんでいた ので, "the train was crowded, so…". The second half has to be the natural result. A crowded train means no seat, so you stand.
ずっと with 〜ていました describes a state that lasted the whole time — here, all the way to the station, on the train. 駅まで is how far the ride went, not a route you walked.
Words for a train ride
| Word | Meaning |
|---|---|
| こむ/こんでいる | to be crowded |
| すく/すいている | to be empty, not crowded |
| 席 | a seat |
| 立つ・座る | to stand, to sit |
| ずっと | the whole time; all the way |
Why the wrong answers are tempting
- ✕ 歩いて駅まで makes it sound like walking to the station, but you were on the train the whole time.
- ✕ 座ってThe opposite of what a crowded train allows.
- ✕ 寝てPossible on a train, but nothing about crowding leads to it.
