〜ば〜ほど
ba … hodo · the more ~, the more ~
〜ば〜ほど means the more A, the more B: 練習すればするほど上手になる, the more you practise, the better you get.
How to form it
| V-ば + V-dictionary + ほど | 読めば読むほど |
| い-adj-ければ + い-adj + ほど | 安ければ安いほど |
| な-adj なら + な-adj な + ほど | 静かなら静かなほど |
How it is used
The same word is repeated: first in the ば-form, then in the plain form before ほど.
The first half can be dropped: 「練習するほど上手になる」 means the same.
Examples

- 日本語は勉強すればするほど面白くなります。The more you study Japanese, the more interesting it gets.
- 野菜は新しければ新しいほどおいしい。The fresher the vegetables, the better they taste.
- 考えれば考えるほど、分からなくなる。The more I think about it, the less I understand.
- 部屋は広ければ広いほどいいです。The bigger the room, the better.
