〜がる
garu · (someone else) shows signs of feeling ~
〜がる turns a feeling word into what someone else shows: 寒がる (act cold), 欲しがる (want), 行きたがる (want to go).
How to form it
| い-adj (drop い) + がる | 怖がる |
| な-adj + がる | 残念がる |
| Stem + たがる | 行きたがる |
How it is used
Japanese does not state other people's feelings directly. 「弟は寒い」 sounds odd; 「弟は寒がっている」 describes what you can see.
It is usually in the ている form for a current state: 「妹は犬を欲しがっています」.
