te kara · after doing ~

〜てから means after doing A, then B, and stresses that A comes first: 手を洗ってから食べます.

How to form it

How it is used

Compared with a plain て-form list, 〜てから makes the order the point: do this first.

It also means since: 「日本に来てから三年になります」, it has been three years since I came to Japan.

Examples

Tap a kanji for its reading.

Let's wash our hands before we eat.
I'll watch TV after I do my homework.
I'll call first, then go.
I've spoken Japanese every day since I came to Japan.

Common mistake

〜たから means because; after needs the て-form plus から.
