How to say months and count years in Japanese
月・か月・年 (がつ・かげつ・ねん)
Month names use 月 (がつ): しがつ (April), しちがつ (July), くがつ (September). Lengths of months use か月 (かげつ). Years use 年 (ねん), with よねん for four.

How many?
Ask with 何月・何か月・何年 (なんがつ・なんかげつ・なんねん).
一月 (いちがつ) is January; 一か月 (いっかげつ) is one month long. The か is sometimes written ヶ or カ: 3ヶ月.
For a length of years, add 間 if needed: 三年間.
