〜から〜まで
kara … made · from ~ to ~
から marks a starting point and まで an end point, in time or space: 九時から五時まで, from nine to five.
How to form it
| A + から + B + まで | 月曜日から金曜日まで |
| Place + から | 駅から歩きます。 |
| Time + までに (by) | 五時までに来てください。 |
How it is used
Each works alone: 「東京から来ました」 (I came from Tokyo), 「駅まで歩きます」 (I walk as far as the station).
まで is until; までに is by, a deadline. 「五時まで待ちます」 is waiting until five; 「五時までに来てください」 means arrive by five.
Examples

- 銀行は九時から三時までです。The bank is open from nine to three.
- 家から駅まで十分かかります。It takes ten minutes from home to the station.
- 夏休みは七月から八月までです。The summer holidays run from July to August.
- 明日までにレポートを出してください。Please hand in the report by tomorrow.
Common mistake
- ✗ 三時までに待ちました。✓ 三時まで待ちました。Waiting carries on up to the time, so it takes まで, not までに.

How to put out rubbish. Burnable: Monday and Thursday. Non-burnable: Wednesday. * Put it out by 8 a.m. Not the night before.
Q: When do you put out rubbish? — By 8 a.m. on the day.
「あしたまでに できますか。」
"Can you do it by tomorrow?" — "Yes, I'll manage somehow."
