〜ます

masu · polite verb ending (present and future)

ます is the polite form of a verb. It covers both habits and future plans: 食べます means I eat or I will eat.

How to form it

る-verbs: drop る, add ます食べる → 食べます
う-verbs: last sound to the い-row + ます書く → 書きます
Irregularする → します・来る → 来ます

How it is used

Group 1 verbs move their last sound to the い-row: 飲む → 飲みます, 話す → 話します. Group 2 verbs just drop る: 見る → 見ます.

There is no separate future tense: 「明日行きます」 is "I'll go tomorrow".
