〜に対して
ni taishite · toward ~; in contrast to ~
〜に対して marks the target of a feeling or action (客に対して丁寧だ, polite toward customers) and also sets up a contrast (それに対して).
How to form it

How it is used
Before a noun it becomes に対する: 「環境に対する意識」.
As a contrast: 「兄は背が高いのに対して、弟は低い」.
Examples

- お客様に対して、丁寧に話してください。Please speak politely to customers.
- 学生の質問に対して、先生が答えました。The teacher answered the student's question.
- 兄が活発なのに対して、弟はおとなしい。The older brother is lively, whereas the younger one is quiet.
- 環境問題に対する関心が高まっています。Interest in environmental issues is growing.
