から vs ので

kara vs node

Both mean because. から is personal and direct; ので sounds objective and softer, so it suits polite explanations and requests.

から vs ので for because: tone, politeness, what can follow each, and the forms that change before ので.

Side by side

Which sounds better

Explaining why you are late to your boss: 「電車が遅れたので、遅刻しました」 sounds like a fact. 「電車が遅れたから、遅刻しました」 can sound like an excuse.

Giving your own reason or opinion, から is natural: 「暑いから、窓を開けよう」.

Form

Nouns and な-adjectives take だ before から and な before ので: 雨だから, 雨なので. To answer "why?", only から works at the end: 「どうして?」「疲れたからです。」
